Climatology

Background

The weather in U.K. is strongly influenced by the wind from the Pacific Ocean from south-west which contains lots of water. This is the main reason of the precipitation of north-west England and high humidity level.

Same pattern

The climate condition of cities in the Catchment Area shares the same pattern with the north-west England, this is a typical marine climates. Although cities in the catchment area stay distance away from each other, the average highest and the coldest temperature appear in the same range.

Differences

However, due to different topographical condition, the wind direction can be different. Manchester appears to has more possibility for west wind and less wind speed than Rawtenstall while most of the wind forward to north-east to Rawtenstall and brings greater amount of precipitation.

Temperature and Precipitation Data.

Weather in catchment area

This image shows the weather in catchment area in four season.

In spring, temperature start raising, most of days the sky appears overcast and it could still be windy.

Summer is the best season here in catchment area, it won’t rain much, the sky would be blue and beautiful. As the wind speed reducing the temperature would maintain in about 18-20 degree.

When it comes to Autumn, the temperature reduce to 9-17 degree and it could rain a little but not so much.

Winter is the coldest season in the year but it would only be around 6-8 degree because catchment area is near to the ocean. However, as the wind speed raising, it would still be quite cold but it would not be freezing. The precipitation amount raise significantly in winter but the rain hour would not be too long.

Overall, the weather in catchment area is still quite nice, it won’t be freezing cold and the average precipitation amount is about 900mm which is under the average amount of G.B.
